School Safety II

 

Who is the course for?

 

The course is designed to be suitable for more experienced teachers and any suitable para-professional working in a school who may play a role in managing or in assisting in the management of School Health and Safety.

 

The course is divided into four options covering the range of school safety management.

 

It is for any person in a school who is carrying out,or preparing for, any of the following roles.

 

It aims to help the Head to deliver records or prove competence of staff in case of any serious incident/accident:

NB * courses above are identified as “safety sensitive” by HSE.

 

A safety sensitive task requires a competent person (appointed in writing) to carry it out.

 

What is the course for?

 

The course has two main objectives.

 

  1. To provide evidence for proof of competence in any of the options listed above.
  2. To assist the Head teacher in the distribution of safety management by ensuring competent staff in each of the main disciplines.

 

This will ensure and provide proof for any Head, Education Employer e.g LEAs,UAs, Councils,Trusts and Private Schools, that they have discharged their safety training responsibility for safety sensitive school tasks and can prove that their staff are involved and knowledgeable in the school safety management.

 

It also provides evidence to successful candidates of CPD and prepares them to play their full role in helping manage school safety.

 

How is the course delivered?

 

It is delivered through online instruction, task recording and completion with offline task completion and reading.

 

Competence can only be demonstrated by doing so each option comprises of action based learning elements.

 

Importantly, activities are school based with elements of real school work incorporated in the  assessments.

 

 

The Online nature of the course is especially suitable for those that require a convenient and more flexibly delivered course.

 

 

What do we expect from you?

 

We expect you to :

  • Have the support of your school and access to the appropriate course materials. 
  • Have completed the School Safety 1 successfully, or to have been given exemption for prior achievement.Contact Us for more information on this.
  • Be working in a school probably as a NQT, Classroom Assistant,School Bursar, Administrative staff or any suitable para-professional.
  • Study for at least 3 hours a week over 6 weeks;
  • Access the web and/or email at least once a week to record your attendance and progress;
  • Complete all course assessments satisfactorily.
  • Take part in designated online Forums and answer emails.

 

How long is the course?

 

The course aims to incorporate about 18/20 hours of study and reading.

 

What are the course aims?

 

The broad aims of the course are to:

 

  • ensure that  basic safety knowledge is relevant and sufficient to enter the course and to complete it successfully. 
  • help candidates to develop their specific knowledge of health and safety in the school environment in their chosen role.
  • help candidates to play their full specific role in  health and safety organisation in the school and provide evidence for competence in that role.
  • help candidates to co-operate to assist in managing health, safety, welfare and environmental issues in the school.
  • ensure that candidates can fulfil their specific roles and to act so as to produce evidence of competence in all roles but specifically in School Risk Assessment and Educational Visits.
  • provide evidence for the school and employer of safety training , safety management and competence in safety sensitive school roles.
  • act as a gateway to competence and to the higher qualifications.

 

What will be studied?

Cost of Learning

 

If your school and/or employer accept the School Safety II as part of their preferred School Safety qualifications there should be no direct cost to candidates.

 

Please note it is solely at the discretion of the employer which course they accept as meeting their own standards as suitable for the deeming of staff as competent to carry out safety sensitive and other roles in safety management.

 

 

 

This course runs on Swan Education’s own servers and there is therefore no extra charge made by Swan to the cost of the course.

 

Can I get time off for School Safety courses?

 

Provision of Safety Training is part of the employer's legal obligation and they must make such time as is required available to you.

 

Online learning should not be seen as an alternative to paid release from work. The law still applies, whether learning takes place away from work or in work, at a workstation or in the school computer suite.
