Who is the course for? 

This  course is designed to be suitable for newer teachers and any suitable para -professional working in a school.

 

This includes NQTs, Learning and Classroom Assistants,School Bursars, Administrative Staff etc.

 

What is the course for?

 

It is devised to act as a suitable Basic Safety Training Requirement for staff. Course records will provide proof for any Education Employer e.g LEAs,UAs, Councils,Trusts and Private Schools, that they have set suitable standards and discharged their basic safety training responsibility.

 

It also provides evidence for successful candidates of CPD,provides evidence of achieving safety competence and prepares trainees to play a fuller role in helping manage school safety.

 

How is the course delivered?

 

It can be  delivered from the Internet,Print, CDROM or from your own hard disc.

 

Importantly, it is school based with elements of real work incorporated as assessment.

 

 

What do we expect from a candidate for COES School Safety I ?

 

We expect you to :

  • Be working in a school probably as a NQT, Classroom Assistant,School Bursar, Administrative staff or any suitable para-professional.
  • Study for about 18/20 hours ;
  • Access  the web and/or email  to record your progress and completion;
  • Complete end of module self testing to verify understanding
  • Complete a final test and three actual safety Activities as assessments chosen from eleven options.
  • Take part in designated online activities e.g. reading of articles and booklets.

 

How long is the course?

 

The course aims to incorporate about 18/20 hours of study and reading.

 

What are the course aims?

 

The broad aims of the course are to:

 

  • provide guided learning through which the learner may become completely familiar with their duty of care inside and out of the classroom.e.g on school visits. 
  • help learners to develop their knowledge of health and safety in the school environment
  • help learners to play their full role in health and safety organisation in the school
  • help learners to co-operate to tackle health, safety, welfare and environmental issues in the school
  • ensure that they can fulfill their role and to provide evidence for competence in School Risk Assessment and Educational Visits.
  • act as a gateway to competence and to the higher qualifications

 

What will be studied?

 

 

The course is divided into five Modules each with an end of module self test  and practical in-school safety  assessments.

 

 

Cost of Learning

 

If your school and/or employer accept the course as their preferred School Safety qualification there should be no direct cost to candidates.

  

Please note it is solely at the discretion of the employer which course they accept as meeting their own standards as suitable for their Basic Safety Training Requirement.
